Hope Grows  A charity gives the tools to grow it, not just give
it. This makes way too much sense.

Do the Right Thing  I, like Mike Tidwell, was a meat connoisseur.
I used to eat the stuff raw. Although his reason for choosing a
vegetarian lifestyle was different than mine, he makes a very good
argument. It really is a no-brainer.

Motor City Redux  This article gives me hope. Urban farming has to
be more than just a concept. This simple, practical approach to
sustainability may just save us from ourselves.

How Cuba Survived Peak Oil  This is a fascinating documentary on
how people can be given the short end of the stick but rise to be
better than they ever were. Food is power!

GMOh NO!  Monsanto is one of the nastiest, self serving
corporations on the planet.  It will be interesting to see how
they put their, "food for the planet", green wash bullshit spin on
this latest study debunking their claims that GMOs are no
different than food that has naturally, beautifully evolved over
millions of years.

I Robot  I was introduced to colloidal silver about five years
ago. I couldn't be sold on it's miraculous properties. I filed it
in my mental, "too good to be true" archive.

I believe that food provides the mechanisms to maintain health
and to cure illness. I woke up the other morning with a gum
infection. Something had gotten lodged under a loose filling
causing some swelling and pain in my jaw and throat. I panicked
as I thought of the money we had saved to do some home repairs
being spent on mouth repairs. Then I thought; I eat the way I do
to be able, in part, handle these health inconveniences when they
arise. I have not had a cold or flu since I overhauled my diet
and I thought that this oral infection would be a test. It would
either clear up or continue on into an abscess. The infection was
gone the next day.

I would much rather use oil of oregano to treat an infection than
silver nanoparticles. I know that every time I eat broccoli, hemp
seeds, goji berries or kale that I am enriching myself on a
cellular level. There is no quick fix. I take no comfort in
people claiming that they have been using colloidal silver for
years. People can smoke cigarettes for 40 years before dying from
it. It's always about the food.

Sugarland  I've blogged previously about how I changed my approach
to life and wellness when I visited my aunt and uncle in the same
cancer ward, in the same room. I began to research cancer and its
causes. Quite often I ended up reading about processed simple
sugars. Cancer loves sugar.

I haven't had a soft drink or eaten candy in almost three years,
though I do eat dark organic chocolate a couple of times a month.
I started drinking my morning cup of coffee black and eliminated
all processed foods from my diet. The U.S. Department of
Agriculture estimated that in 1993, the average American ate 130
pounds of sugar per year, in 1998, 147 pounds of sugar and now,
around 170 pounds of sugar per year.  Sugar, in one form or
another, is in almost everything. Nothing good comes from it. It
rots your teeth, causes obesity and as the link makes clear;
Simple sugars cause cancer. Can you live without a Snickers bar?
You can't live with one.

Just Pay the Extra  I know that quite often the cost of buying
organic fruit and veg can be prohibitive. It seems outrageous to
pay three dollars for a  bunch of broccoli when the conventionally
grown variety is eighty-nine cents. What is not apparent is the
hidden tax that is attached to the eighty-nine cent broccoli. What
you save in money, you lose in quality of life.

Though generally pricer, organic offerings can cost the same or
sometimes, even less than their conventional counterparts.
Switching to a even a few organic items eases the toxic load, not
just on ourselves, but on the ecosystem as well.

The linked article gives yet another reason to consider buying
organic the next time you are at the supermarket.

Veganic Farming Primer  I know very little about veganic farming
but have decided that this is the method that I will employ in my
garden next Spring. Food should be clean and even though organic
is heads and shoulders above conventionally grown produce, it
still could be better. The manure used in organic fields comes
from slaughterhouses and is tainted with antibiotics which are
assimilated into the food it fertilizes.

Dick of the Day  I do not expound my truth. I hope that by
sharing knowledge and living true to my principles that I will
inspire. There are times though, that the swirling vortex of
bullshit forces me to take a stand even if my rage is only felt
by a handful. There are two issues that I have failed to
comprehend even though I have tried. I have engaged in
conversation, both real and online, to try to understand the
opposing view but like hearing the pious talk of Jesus, I am left
even more bewildered. One is the disconnect, even the willing
ignorance to continue behaviour one knows to be sinister. If you
have a roast in the slow cooker, stop saying that you are an
animal lover. What you are is a hypocrite and enough with the
argument that animals eat animals until you are willing to go
head to head with a Bengal tiger. The other insane issue that I
cannot wrap my head around is the concept of humane or happy
meat. How is letting an animal live for 15 percent of its natural
life before killing it to suck the meat off of its ribs humane?

The link is a prime example of the inability to rise above the
conditioned, thoughtless approach to those that we should, as our
role as stewards, protect.
